Perhaps the pithiest, most memorable line of all is: "they say I'm up and coming like a f- elevator".
Sheeran's rap-homage to his own hard work is littered with thinly disguised barbs, from stating "names on the credits and you didn't write nothing" to revelling in his "VO5 wax for my ginger hair". This song was Sheeran's frenetic, loquacious, tongue-in-cheek response. In an interview with BBC Breakfast, Sheeran sheepishly admitted his original management had told him to dye his trademark ginger locks and cut out the rapping. Sheeran's second single from his debut album + was a cheeky two fingers up to his former management company who tried to change his image and industry figures who tried to lech off his growing success. Lived away from home for about two years but I had never really seen the dark underbelly of London. In a radio interview, Sheeran explained: "I was 18 at the time. Volunteers explained to Sheeran what life might be like for people like Angel once the festive season was over and the shelter closed. The young singer-songwriter struck up a friendship with Angel, a big fan of Guns 'n' Roses who apparently made Sheeran play "Sweet Child O' Mine" several times. Angel was allowed to make rules, as long as she obeyed them herself. Staff explained that before she became unofficial sheriff, Angel had been a difficult guest at the shelter. While there he spotted a sheet of paper headed "Angels Rules" pinned to a noticeboard. Over one Christmas, Sheeran played a few gigs for a homeless charity. The bright lilting tune belies the darker undertones of his inspiration, about a drug addict living on the street who has turned to prostitution to fund her addiction - "in a pipe she flies to the Motherland / Or sells love to another man". Sheeran was just 18 when the inspiration for his breakthrough track the A-Team came along in the form of a homeless woman named Angel.
